Prep your Home for your Next Trip

Check these items off your list before your Vacation!

Ready for a vacation? As temperatures warm, it’s a goal of many to get out of town and see something new. Whether you travel with family or friends, it’s nice to immerse yourself in a new culture while enjoying some much-needed rest and relaxation. However, while it’s exciting to think about traveling, there are some things to take care of at home before you go. Be sure to check these things at your house before leaving to ensure a stress-free vacation and happy return home!

This goes without saying; turn the lights off. This wastes energy that you’ll have to pay for later, not to mention any bulbs that you’ll have to replace when you come back. Smart travelers use light timers to make it look like someone is home and protect against burglars.

Make sure all windows are shut too, and blinds are closed. While you may want plenty of sunlight for your plants, open windows waste energy and allow thieves to see unimpeded inside your home.

Small Appliances

Your coffee maker, microwave, toaster, etc.; unplug all of them. You won’t be using them, you don’t need them on, and this is an energy waste that you’ll regret later.

Large Appliances

Make sure larger appliances are taken care of as well. I recommend cleaning perishables out of the fridge to make sure you aren’t coming home to a rotten-smelling kitchen. Additionally, the water heater can be turned off or put on “vacation mode” to ensure you don’t waste water and energy on your trip.

In fact, it might be a good idea to shut off your water main for the duration of your trip. If you have a house-sitter, leave it on for them. If you’re just leaving your home, this will protect against leaks and breaks while you’re gone.

A/C & Heating

Depending on the season, set the temperature in your home to ensure the comfort systems aren’t running the entire time you’re gone. This is another great waste of money and energy that you don’t need.

Lawn Care

An unkempt lawn can be a sign to a burglar that you’re not home. Be sure to have this taken care if you’ll be gone for an extended period. Local lawn companies or even a neighborhood kid should suffice to keep a well-manicured yard.

Make Necessary Arrangements

Other things you’ll want to take care of before skipping town include suspending mail service, finding a pet sitter, and much more.

Remodeling projects that come with serious benefits!french doors collinsivlle il

One of the joys of home ownership is being able to update your space through home improvements. People everywhere make all sorts of additions to better enjoy their homes and, of course, quietly compete with neighbors. At AAAACES, our local professionals use their knowledge and experience to ensure quality renovations for people across the Metro-East.However, could remodeling your home actually benefit your health, too? While your doctor won’t write you a prescription for “1 kitchen remodeling job,” some projects could bring positive benefits to your life!

Remodeling is a great way to increase the curb appeal or functionality of your home. But, the actual benefit is the way your body reacts to natural lighting and fresh air. Poor light inside your home can cause your eyes to strain and give you headaches, and even emotional distress if exposed to for long periods. Natural lighting has been proven to stimulate the brain and can have a calming effect on your mood.

More fresh air in your home can also help sustain a healthy mind and body. Breathing fresh air cleans out lungs of toxins and can help calm thoughts. Also, it improves blood pressure, heart rate, and more. Bringing fresh air and natural light into any home can increase the overall happiness and well-being of those inside it. Call your local remodeling expert, and start a project that will make your home a relaxing, comfortable environment for all.

Open up your home!

Open your windows and doors to let that fresh air and sunshine in. Or, even better, have new windows or doors installed to allow for the maximum amount of light and oxygen. These are remodeling projects that can bring the desired curb appeal and satisfaction that many homeowners crave when renovating their homes. Make sure the job is done right by having a local professional help with installation.aaaaces remodeling

Both doors and windows allow for a high amount of personalization and come in many styles, colors, and materials. Choose wooden French doors for an elegant entry, or traditional framed and paneled doors for practicality. To let the maximum amount of light and air in, think about screen, sliding glass, or Dutch style doors.

The options are endless and include picture windows, which are large but don’t open for air. Awning windows, on the other hand, allow for both natural light and fresh air to flood the desired room. Windows can be highly customized, and you can even install windows that will help you save money with insulated glass for energy efficiency.
